Anyone who seeks success should visualize as much as possible before tackling the challenge. And yes, that includes having a video of the goal before deciding on the challenge.
Here's how I'm trying to get around this "visualize your goal" problem.
I often suggest that people make a short video of their goal. If they can do that, then it's relatively easy to visualize the goal as they watch the video. But what I've found, with some clients, is that they simply can't visualize the goal with all the details as they watch the short video. So they have a hard time finishing the video and then committing to whatever it is they're trying to accomplish. So I suggest they post the goal on the refrigerator, in their wallet, in their breast pocket, or whatever else is available. In this way, they commit to seeing it as much as possible.
This tip is especially useful for entrepreneurial types because it means they commit to seeing their goals as much as possible. Those people are particularly prone to visualizing; for some, the urge to visualize runs through their veins. But it's also true that when they start to actually visualize the goal, it doesn't feel quite as good as it did in their mind. That's because they are picturing a lot more than they used to imagine, and more things aren't quite as appealing as they were in their mind.
So how do we resolve that? It's simple. Keep the video posted. As you watch, post the goal somewhere where you'll see it regularly. Once you commit to seeing it regularly, you'll feel more committed. And once you feel committed, you'll be committed to seeing it more often. That's how you stay committed to seeing your goals. And I like to show clients this short video of their goal so they can watch it regularly and feel committed to seeing it.
For many people, posting the goal on the refrigerator, in their wallets, in their breast pocket is a great location for their goal. And it works well with other things too. The key is that you commit to seeing it regularly, then you keep seeing it regularly. Once you do that, you'll keep seeing it more often.
So my suggestion is to commit to seeing your goals regularly. But make sure that your commitment is based on regular, consistent viewing. Once you've done that, you'll keep seeing your goals regularly. That's how you stay committed to seeing your goals.
